Another sunrise session! Though this one was a little more difficult. We rescheduled this engagement session several times starting in April (!) and always got rained out. This morning didn’t seem to be different but we decided to forge ahead and do it no matter what. Laney and Wes’ wedding is coming up in October and we were running out of time. Sometimes my favorite photos come out of less than ideal situations and this was definitely one of those times! It was still pretty dark when we started and the humidity was intense. But I love how the photos turned out – Laney and Wes are so fun and I would love it if all my future brides and grooms were covered in tattoos! I can’t wait for their fall wedding – I know it’s going to be beautiful.

Shayd’s senior photo session
Sunrise sessions are my new favorite thing. While it is hard to get up at 5am (for me, not everyone, but me for sure) that is, by default, the hardest part of the day. A cup of coffee later and everything is great. The light in the morning is the best and for us in Kentucky – it’s not as hot. Humid, yes, but the sweat is more of a glisten than the ‘pouring down the back of my shirt’ variety that can happen in sunset sessions. Again, I’m speaking for myself. 🙂
Shayd (and her mom!) were awesome sports to get up with the sun. It was a beautiful morning for photography and we had a lot of fun running around North Limestone. Shayd is amazing and so fun to photograph.
Hayes 7 Months Old!
How does Hayes keep getting cuter? Love that red hair!
Welcome to the world Baby Hayes!
I’m a little behind on this one – we’re about to shoot Hayes’ 7 month session this weekend! But better late than never, right?
I love newborn sessions. They are so intimate and I am always incredibly honored that brand new parents will have me come in during those emotional first days of having a baby. It’s so raw and beautiful and moving to witness that transition into parenthood. I love these shoots because they are so slow – we move at the pace of the baby. There’s a lot of breaks for cuddling and nursing, and I get to breathe in that new baby smell for hours. It’s amazing how much they change in those first few weeks. And how in six months they can look so different and exactly the same. It’s incredible.
Thank you to Anne Dean and Rand for sharing this time with me! You can see their maternity session here (and their adorable dog Fitz!)
Jennifer & Charlie… Married!
You guys. This wedding was amazing. It had everything you could ever want in a wedding (especially as a photographer!) – a beautiful ceremony in a lovely church, an amazing reception in one of the most charming venues in Kentucky, smiles and laughter all day, and full of wonderful friends and family. It’s the kind of wedding where on the drive home I can’t stop smiling thinking about it. I knew when we did Jennifer and Charlie’s engagement session that their wedding was going to be something special. But I really had no idea how spectacular it was going to be. And, my favorite part – we had so much time for photos! In three different locations! It was a photographer’s dream come true.
There are so many great people that had a part in making this day so wonderful! Thank you!

The Bards
It was a beautiful start to Derby Day with this awesome family! I love their outfits – they nailed the color coordination. The weather has been all over the place in Kentucky this May, and we really lucked out with this beautiful morning. And after the shoot we went to Windy Corner for breakfast, which pretty much sets you up for a perfect day (and maybe a nap.) 🙂
Ciera & Logan… engaged!
Anne Dean & Rand… expecting!
There is so much I love about this session – that early morning light, Fitz the dog, wonderful people, and yoga! I met Anne Dean through yoga and she is the most inspiring teacher I’ve ever had. I was so excited when she asked me to document this special time and I can’t wait to meet their little one!
